Research built to travel from the laboratory to the people who need it.
CREATES is the Centre for Research in Therapeutic Sciences at Strathmore University and the University's first biomedical research centre. It was established as a collaborative, multidisciplinary platform for therapeutic sciences, clinical pharmacology, medical genetics, research training, and health-product development.
The Centre responds to health priorities in Kenya and the East African region by bringing scientific discovery, clinical evaluation, local knowledge, and institutional capacity into one shared research environment.

CREATES began as a collaborative open platform involving Strathmore University, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa, and the African Centre for Clinical Trials in Nairobi.
The consortium set out to establish a clinical pharmacology and product-development platform at Strathmore University: one capable of strengthening research capacity, evaluating existing treatments for local populations, and moving health innovations from early ideas towards products that can improve patient care.
From the beginning, the platform was designed to extend beyond the boundaries of any single institution. It gives students, scientists, clinicians, and collaborators access to research expertise, clinical environments, laboratories, data systems, mentorship, and regional networks.
Foundation
A biomedical research centre at Strathmore
CREATES was formed as a four-institution consortium and an open clinical pharmacology and product-development platform.
First decade
Research infrastructure and landmark studies
The Centre established research, ethics, laboratory, data, and clinical-trial capability, including Kenya's first controlled human malaria infection challenge study.
2013-2019
A growing training platform
CREATES delivered courses and workshops in malaria microscopy, nanomedicine, clinical-trial management, pharmacovigilance, research data, pharmacometrics, and study coordination.
2022
BRAINS mobility programme launched
The Mobility for Research and African Integration through Health Sciences programme expanded the Centre's role in cross-border research training and collaboration.
Today
A platform for the next generation
CREATES continues to connect therapeutic research, clinical sites, product translation, capacity development, and international collaboration.

CREATES combines postgraduate supervision, practical short courses, laboratory access, study experience, mentorship, and international exchange. Training has covered clinical-trial management, data management, pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutics, microscopy, research management, and bio-entrepreneurship so that scientists can connect strong science with useful products.
