Overview: The HBCTRH Site (Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital), was established in 2022 and is located in Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, Homabay County. It has been in existence for over 3 years and operates under CREATES and Centre for Clinical Research of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI CCR).
Research Focus and Surveillance: The unit focuses on epidemiological studies and vaccine trials more so on TB within Homabay County.
Facilities and Collaborations: Equipped with the best facilities e.g, well equipped Pharmacy and Clinical research lab, Consultation Rooms, Data/IT, Archive, store, common office for study coordination and staffed by experienced medical professionals and researchers, HBCTRH research site is committed to advancing medical knowledge and improving healthcare outcomes. It collaborates with local communities through Community Health Promoters to address public health challenges and develop innovative healthcare solutions tailored to the region’s needs.
Leadership:The site is led by Dr. Bernhards Ogutu (MBChB, MMed, PhD), who serves as the Site Leader and Principal Investigator assisted by Sub-Investigators and Professor Florence Oloo as the site Director.
