Study overview
Pulmonary complications contribute substantially to illness among people living with sickle cell disease. This study evaluated lung-function patterns and associated factors among participants aged six to seventeen years in Kenya’s Lake Victoria basin. By generating evidence from the population and care setting in which it will be used, the study supports earlier recognition of respiratory impairment and more informed clinical follow-up for children and adolescents with sickle cell disease.
Results and current findings
The study documented lung-function patterns and examined determinants of respiratory impairment in children and adolescents with sickle cell disease, adding locally generated evidence to support clinical monitoring and timely intervention.
